Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret says he will use the international break to improving all aspects of play before the Absa Premiership returns on April 1.
The Buccaneers recently registered their first victory over 2017, during their 3-1 win over EC Bees in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 following their winless run in all competitions.
The 54-year-old says that he is pleased with the mood in the Pirates camp at the moment as they head into the international break before they return to take on Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership on April 1.
‘Two and half weeks is a long time but it will do us good, we are going to have a tough couple of weeks of training,’ Jonevret told the Orlando Pirates website.
‘We have a chance now because there aren’t any fixtures so we can solely focus on training in the first week, then give the players a couple of days over the weekend to visit their families but it’s going to be even more hard work when they return.’
The Swedish coach says he is already planning to use this time effectively to work on improving their defensive and attacking organisations as well as their set-pieces.
‘I think Jazzy Queen, Benson (Mhlongo) and myself have seen a lot more of the players now which makes it easier for us to work on all aspects of play,’ He added.
‘Our defensive organisation has improved a lot but it still needs work, we also have to work more on our set-pieces. I’m happy with our build up but we have to work harder on finishing so we can take advantage when we get to the final third.
‘We have discussed more on how we want the team to look on the pitch, how we want to play and I think now we have a chance to decide better what to do with each player because I want to have the best out of every player in every game. So hopefully we can use this time to be able to better identify roles for the players.’
Orlando Pirates will now take on Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership on April 1.
The match at Goble Park kicks off at 18:00.
