Golden Arrows wing Wayde Jooste wants his side to continue working on strengthing their performance in order to challenge for silverware during the 2018-19 campaign, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The 26-year-old, who came through Bloemfontein Celtic’s youth ranks, made 17 appearances in the Absa Premiership 2017-18 campaign, as Abafana Bes’thende finished the season in seventh place.
Jooste believes his side can finish high up on the league table and challenge for silverware this season after qualifying for the MTN8.
‘Any club would want to improve on the previous season. The season before we finished eighth and our last season seventh and this season we want to finish higher than we did before,’ Jooste said.
‘We don’t just want to be a team that finishes in the top eight. I want us to challenge for a cup as well.
‘We going to do the same as we did last season, we are a team that plays on the counter, we are a team with a lot of pace and power going forward,’ he said. ‘I think we need to keep doing what we were doing. We need to keep doing what we are strong at and what we are good at because that is what got us to where we are.
‘We’ll continue to work on our strengths and work on our weaknesses to turn it into strengths.’
He added: ‘I want to win more Man of the Match awards than I did the previous season and I would like to win a Player of the Month award.
‘With regards to goals, I know it’s difficult for wingers and even strikers to score more than 10 goals in the league. I am aiming for eight to 10 goals and try to assist more than 10 goals.
‘As far as the team goals are, I would also like to end my career saying “I won this” and “I won that”. I’d like us to challenge for a trophy this season.’
Over the course of his career, Jooste has managed to score four goals and made three assists from 60 appearances in all competitions for Celtic and Arrows.
