Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has urged his side to win their remaining games to keep their Absa Premiership title hopes alive this season.
The Glamour Boys were eliminated in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after losing 5-3 on penalties to defending champions SuperSport United at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Despite, going on a 12-match unbeaten streak in the Absa Premiership, Katsande says his side will have to win their remaining Absa Premiership fixtures to prevent Amakhosi from being condemned to back-to-back seasons without any silverware.
‘We have no choice but to win all our remaining games,’ Katsande told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘We lost in the Nedbank Cup game against SuperSport United on Saturday and because it was a cup game plus going into penalties meant it could go either way.’
‘We went straight back to the drawing board after the game on Saturday. ‘We speak in one voice, and that’s winning all the remaining six games of the league.’
The 31-year-old admits his side are well aware of the threat Cape Town City possesses, but he insists that Amakhosi will keep their guard up against a side who likes to play counter-attacking football.
‘We know City very well after playing them twice this season,’ he added. ‘They are a counter-attacking team and in that case, it means we have to be disciplined to guard against their breaks.
‘We are left with six games, we have to believe in ourselves.’
With six games left to play in the 2016-17 Absa Premiership season, one point separate Chiefs and City at the top of the table, with Steve Komphela’s side occupying third place with 45 points, while City lead with 46.
Kaizer Chiefs against Cape Town City kicks off at 19:30.
