Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has explained the reason for pledging loyalty to the club after extending his stay at Chloorkop.

The 34-year-old recently put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2024.

Kekana has made over 300 appearances for Sundowns since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2011. Kekana has had an illustrious career with the Brazilians, winning four Absa Premiership titles, one Nedbank Cup title, one Telkom Knockout Cup, one Caf Champions League trophy and one Caf SuperCup title.

Despite all his accomplishments, the veteran midfielder insists he is relishing the chance to win even more silverware with Sundowns and labels them ‘a team of winners’.

‘To be honest, if you’ve tasted that amount of success that we’ve enjoyed at Sundowns, you want more. So, there’s that drive from us to look for more,’ Kekana told Independent Media.

‘I renewed my contract because I know we are a team of winners. Everyone is willing to go the extra mile to win trophies.’

The Zebediela-born added that he wants to see his side succeed and is aiming to win every match and every trophy available on offer.

‘It is a plan to always try and win every match and the trophies which we compete for. We always want to improve as a team and do the undoable,’ he added.

‘We want to continue winning trophies. I remember when we first won the Champions League, we never had the belief that we will win it. So, I still believe that as a team we have what it takes to win [more] trophies.’
