Mamelodi Sundowns’ Hlompho Kekana has revealed his delight in receiving his fourth nomination for PSL Footballer of the Year.

The Downs skipper was nominated for this season’s award alongside teammate Percy Tau and Maritzburg United’s Siphesihle Ndlovu and he will be hoping it will be fourth time lucky.

In previous seasons, Kekana has been denied the accolade by Lebogang Manyama, Khama Billiat and Tefu Mashamaite. This, however, does not bother the midfielder, who is just happy to be nominated and sees the individual accolades as a bonus to the real prize – the team’s successes.

‘It’s special for me to be a nominee because every season I challenge myself to be a better player. I am glad that the panel could see that the numbers don’t lie and that there’s something I do in this league,’ Kekana told KickOff.com.

‘I am obviously excited to be nominated. It’s four years in a row now, so that shows that I try by all means to be there every year. I get motivation from things like this. It will motivate me to go for a fifth next season because it’s not about winning, but making sure that I am counted every year.’
