Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-0 victory over Bidvest Wits at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Saturday evening.
The Students got off to a good start and had the first opportunity at goal when Gabadinho Mhango headed wide of the upright inside the opening 10 minutes.
However, Sundowns were dealt a major blow in the 20th minute when Denis Onyango was forced off the field after picking up an injury and had to be replaced by Wayne Sandilands.
Th Brazilians eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Hlompho Kekana curled his effort into the back of the net with a fine free-kick from 20 yards out.
Pitso Mosimane’s side went into the half-time interval with a 1-0 over the Clever Boys.
In the second half, Sundowns looked a livelier side and had a couple of half chances in the final third through Yannick Zakri and Sibusiso Vilakazi.
Wits pressed forward in search of an equaliser, but struggled to break down the Sundowns defence with 10 minutes left to play.
However, the Brazilians all but sealed the victory in stoppage time when Tau set up Vilakazi, who slotted into an empty net to make it 2-0 as Sundowns walked away with all three points.
