Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana international goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has shed light on his weight struggles as he looks to get into optimal shape.
The 31-year-old’s body image has been the subject of much discussion from fans, who are adamant that Khune needs to lose a few kilograms.
Chiefs and rivals fans took to social media last season and circulated a number of pictures, jokes and memes about the player being seemingly out of shape. In the face of the criticism, Khune still delivered as he notched up the Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award with 16 clean sheets in 27 matches.

Khune admits that he has been working hard in a bid to shed more weight, citing his optimal body weight as well.
‘I have been working very hard because last season I was criticised about my weight, after the match that we lost against Golden Arrows,’ he told kickoff.
‘I always thought that it [weight] comes with age as you grow older, so I realised I was even suffering from a lot of injuries because I was overweight, which I needed to do something about.
‘So, I consulted and got advice. I started eating well, started drinking more fluids and started putting in extra work, and I came back stronger. Now I’m not suffering from any minor or major injuries because of the weight loss.
‘My perfect weight was 84 kilograms but I was once on 92 and now my target is 78. I know that once I get to 78, people will start saying, “Go and test”. I will go and do it in public,’ he concluded.
