Chiefs dominated proceedings from start to finish, but ultimately failed to find the goal that would propel them back to the top of the table.

‘Before you convert you have to generate and create, there’s many scenarios when you have to generate goals or create,’ Komphela said on SuperSport after the game.

‘I thought sometimes we were reluctant to go a bit quicker forward because when they are sitting [back], the only time that you can get an opportunity is when they have the ball. As soon as they lose the ball, [we needed to] have the appetite to hit as quickly as possible.

‘[William] Twala gave us a bit of irritation on the other side, we did enter the final third … sometimes the question of taking the right decision, the ball dropping to the right player, and that’s the difference between a 1-0 and a 0-0.’

While pleased with the clean sheet, Komphela still sees a lot more work to be done by his underperforming Glamour Boys.

‘The clean sheet, it’s okay, it’s something positive we can take home, but it is important as well to acknowledge that the manner in which you set up in your defence is informed by how you attack,” he continued.

‘Now the way we attack means we have to immediately get on the ball as soon as we lose it, which we opened up a bit, we lost the ball and gave them a breather. We have to be on their throats, we have to suffocate them, because the minute you back off, teams that play against us get very excited when they get space.

‘I’m delighted with the clean sheet, not happy with the result, we need to start scoring. This is the second match without getting goals and we need to work on that.’

Chiefs’ draw against Baroka has cost them two places on the Premiership log as they drop down to third behind Wits and SuperSport United.
