Komphela heaps praise on Lebese

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela was pleased with George Lebese’s match-winning performance against Chippa United, but urged the winger to be more selfish at times.

George Lebese’s 87th minute strike ensured that the Naturena based-outfit kept their title hopes alive as they jumped to second spot on the table – equal on points with log leaders, Cape Town City.

Komphela took the time to lavish praise on Lebese, who hasn’t been enjoying the best of performances in this campaign, but the Chiefs mentor stressed that the Amakhosi faithful love the 28-year-old despite his recent below-par performances.

‘If you can’t love them, you can’t lead them, we love George (Lebese) with all our hearts, we equally love Edmore Chirambadare,’ Komphela said in post-match comments.

‘Now he (Chirambadare) understands that you’ve given the best, he works extremely hard and when a man works like that, it’s a compliment, as much a man with the finesse and quality Lebese has, it must also be acknowledged.

‘The minute we pushed him (Lebese) in we knew, I said it in the dressing room, this is a Lebese game, because there are matches where you go, what kind of player do you need.

‘There was one (chance) where he passed, be selfish and take it inside the box and this guy has got massive qualities and with the privilege of working with quality like this, what more can I ask for,’ he concluded.

Chiefs face SuperSport United in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final encounter on Saturday April 22, before turning their attention to the league campaign where they face Cape Town City in a top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday April 25 in Cape Town.
