Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he was impressed with Free State Stars goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare’s performance at Goble Park on Wednesday.
The Glamour Boys managed to snatch a late goal courtesy of Teenage Hadebe to claim all three points against Free State Stars which saw them move up to third in the Absa Premiership standings with 39 points.
Komphela complimented Ea Lla Koto’s fighting spirit while reserving special praise for Sangare, who earned the man of the match award following his impressive display.
‘I would not be doing justice if I were not to compliment Free State Stars for the fight they put, they’re a hard nut to crack,’ Komphela told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘The goalkeeper [Sangare] did a splendid job. I thought Itu [Khune] as well under conditions, you expect goalkeepers to always be there. It was a game of concentration.
‘Although, the first half we failed to take advantage of the fact that we were playing [Ryan] Moon and [Leonardo] Castro against [Rooi] Mahamutsa and [Bengali] Keita. We could have been more practical. Conditions like these, you can’t complicate your game, you have to keep it simple, which I thought we failed [to do].
‘One of our desires is to see our people enjoy football. A little bit of it showed today but there were great saves by the goalkeeper. I thought the goalkeeper did very well. There was one [save] from Castro. There was about two saves, the one from [Bernard] Parker. Compliments to him, no wonder he was given man of the match.
‘You can’t give up, and knowing that you can have people who can kill games, whenever there’s a set-play, there’s hope.
‘I thought Pule [Hendrik Ekstein] got into those small spaces and created a couple chances, we just need to take them,’ he concluded.
Chiefs will next welcome Chippa United to the FNB Stadium when the two side’s meet in a league clash on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
