Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela lamented his team’s attacking and defensive showing following their 1-0 loss to Polokwane City, which extended their winless streak to four games.

Thapelo Tshilo’s 75th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two teams, but Komphela insists that his side should have wrapped up the game in the first-half.

‘I thought first half we could have wrapped it and if you don’t wrap it in the first-half, or the second-half as well,’ he said inb post-match comments.

‘I thought we did play, but you need to take the chances you create. Maybe one thing we could have done better is play more quicker forward, and try penetrate more.

‘But as well, penetration would be affected by their defensive block. The central part of it was blocked, so maybe we needed to go wider, go come, go wide, get a cross in. Those are things in football that define the moment,’ he added.

The former Maritzburg United mentor also eluded to his side’s bad defending for Tshilo’s goal.

‘I think we defended badly on the corner. We don’t normally concede on corner kicks; last season we conceded a lot, this season only once. We should have defended better.

‘I thought in defence you need to put your body on the line. There are stages where the ball, even if it’s 50-50 or 60-40, we just need to put a stronger foot in so that you can defend.

‘Congratulations to them (Polokwane City). They fought for it, they had the energy, and unfortunately, with us, we didn’t take the chances we had or advantage of the situations we created ourselves,’ he concluded.

The result sees Chiefs remain in fifth spot on the table – ten points behind table-toppers, Bidvest Wits and five points behind third-placer Cape Town City, who occupy the CAF Confederation Cup spot.
