Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela insists that Mamelodi Sundowns are not favourites to win the Absa Premiership title, despite their five point lead at the top of the table.
The Glamour Boys currently occupy third place in the league standings with 19 points, trailing the Brazilians by six.
Komphela believes that his side are still in with a chance of winning the PSL title this campaign, despite Sundowns’ lead at the summit of the table.
‘If you asked the same question when they had gone through a patch where they were not winning, would you have said Sundowns are relegation candidates? No,’ Komphela told KickOff.com.
‘The same should apply now in terms of looking at it in a positive light. There’s still a long way to go.’
Komphela’s side will be hoping to close the gap at the top of the table when they welcome Ajax Cape Town to the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
‘We should close the year positively. We need to get a win as well and, if I remember well, we haven’t won at home for whatever reason,’ he added.
‘It’s important to go to Durban against a very good Ajax team, coached by a very good coach [Stanley Menzo], and try to win a match.’
Kaizer Chiefs will face Ajax Cape Town at 20:15.
