Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela believes his side are ‘on the right track’, despite their second consecutive trophyless season under his tutelage.

The Glamour ended the 2016/17 season  empty-handed after finishing fourth in the Absa Premiership with 50 points, ten points behind champions Bidvest Wits.

The 49-year-old says he was not happy with the way Amakhosi fared this season, but drew on some of the positive which he believes could be built on for the 2017/18 season.

“By Kaizer Chiefs standards, we didn’t do well and failed to meet our objectives. However, when it comes to the game model – there was an improvement in the way we played. Not winning a single trophy was definitely not good,” Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

Komphela says his side did slightly better during the second half of the season, but he feels the team needs to grind out more positive results.

“We are on the right track, playing attractive attacking football with speed, skill, movement and lots of box entries, creating lots of chances,” he added.

“We simply need to win matches because controlling and dominating without winning affects the players’ confidence. It also makes our job as coaches very difficult.”
