Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he was satisfied with the win and his tactics after they beat Chippa United 1-0 in the Absa Premiership at the Mbombela Stadium.
Amakhosi collected all three points after a 85th minute goal by George Lebese handed hem the victory on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys remain second in the Absa Premiership standings level on 45 points with log-leaders Cape Town City, having played one more game.
The 49-year-old admits that he was satisfied with the narrow win and is delighted to have walked away with all three points against the Chilli Boys.
‘Any point counts at the stage,’ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘We played a good side that can hurt you if you aren’t careful. They don’t threaten often, but they have this ability to score at any point of the game if you aren’t careful.’
‘We had to grind out a result and I’m happy with the three points. The game was a spectacle for the supporters.’
Komphela says he knew bringing on George Lebese to replace Edmore Chirambadare in the second half would make a positive impact in the match.
‘We made a few changes, including bringing on George Lebese and it worked,’ he added.
‘With Edmore having worked hard in the first half, we thought that Lebese with his finesse will give us something different. And, I remember telling the bench that George will score for us tonight and that’s exactly what happened.
‘George had a niggling pain in his ankle and we wanted it to settle and be treated adequately. I hope he will remain injury free for the rest of the season.’
Kaizer Chiefs will next go head-to-head with SuperSport United when the two sides meet in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.
The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
