Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela asserts there was a lot of aggression and emotion during their 2-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.

The Glamour Boys walked away with all three points against the Brazilians after Siyabonga Ngezana and Bernard Parker cancelled out Themba Zwane’s late penalty.

Komphela says he was delighted to walk away with a positive result against Sundowns, which sees his side move up to third place in the Absa Premiership standings.

‘Overall, I thought it was a nice match for the supporters. End-to-end stuff with lots of aggression, lots of emotions and I also felt for the referees, these are not easy matches to handle,’ Komphela told SuperSport TV after the match.

‘First half, I thought we had about six chances. Just a bit of more belief. A belief that you are inside the box and you can take it and score from there. Defensively, I thought we did quite well.

‘Defence is so frustrating that you need to be disciplined under punishment. When you maintain the pressure and the discipline, that informs how you come out.

‘Even in the dying minutes, I thought if we had picked the right pass, we could have got something. But it’s football, there will always be things that you think “if I could, if I would”, but we should be happy with the result and we are moving on.’

Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they welcome rivals Orlando Pirates to the FNB Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, with kick-off set for 15:30.
