Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he will continue to monitor Itumeleng Khune’s injury ahead of their match against Cape Town City in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.
REACTION: Komphela: We will go back to take stock
The Amakhosi shot-stopper produced a man-of-the-match performance against SuperSport United in their 5-3 defeat on penalties in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
With Khune’s injury being monitored Komphela will have to think about using Bruce Bvuma, Brylon Lee Petersen or Luthando Sixhaso in reserve, with Brilliant Khuzwayo out for the rest of the season, should Khune be deemed unfit for the tie.
The 49-year-old coach has confirmed that Khune suffered a bruised hip during the penalty shoot-out against United and will be assessed ahead of their upcoming fixture.
‘Itu (Itumeleng Khune) is bruised on his hip,’ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘We will have to monitor his injury going to the next game.’
Khune has kept 10 clean sheets from 25 appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi, while conceding 19 goals thus far this season.
Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership when they take on Cape Town City in a top of the table battle on Tuesday.
The match at Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
