Mamelodi Sundowns forward Anthony Laffor is determined to recover from his injury setbacks after spending most of the year on the sidelines.

The 33-year-old has only managed two appearances in all competitions so far this campaign before sustaining a hamstring and knee injury that kept him sidelined for 11 of the Brazilians’ opening 13 games of the season.

The Liberian international is in the final year of his contract, and says he will remain humble and continue to support Sundowns as he recovers.

‘I got injured in training and I was recovering well. I went to play for my country and after the game against Congo, I got injured on my knee. But soon you guys will see me on the pitch,’ Laffor told KickOff.com.

‘It’s frustrating, but it’s football. The only thing you need to do is be humble and keep your feet on the ground. That’s the most important thing. That’s what I have been doing. The guys in the team have been doing well and I am very much supportive.’

Laffor added that his main objective is to focus on the team while trying to regain his form and place within the squad.

‘I don’t pay attention to individuals, I pay attention to what the team is doing. When the team is doing well, I am happy and I just hope and pray that I get the groove very soon,’ he added.

‘We [Liberia] also have a game against Zimbabwe very soon, so I need to prepare very well and see how best I can handle the situation. I am not far [from making a return].’

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to bounce back from their elimination in the Telkom Knockout when they welcome Free State Stars to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday with kick-off set for 7:30pm.
