Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen was proud of his side’s good defensive organisation following their 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
A 65th-minute strike by Vuyani Ntanga was enough to hand Abafana Bes’thende the three points at home, which leaves them in second place on the Absa Premiership log, with Kaizer Chiefs on top by goal difference.
The 45-year-old coach says it’s always tough to play against a team that dominates in possession but he believes that was the Chilli Boys downfall.
‘This was always going to be a mammoth challenge in terms of our organisation as a team,’ Larsen said.
‘Chippa is a team obsessed with possession and very good at it so we had to be very disciplined. We also knew that the way they played would also present us with opportunities to score and that’s exactly how things unfolded.’
Larsen believes his side were very well organised in defence but remained disappointed that his side could only manage to score one goal in the match.
‘We are proud of the effort and good defensive organisation but disappointed that we did not score more than the solitary goal,’ he added.
‘Our players wore their hearts on their sleeves and that’s all we can ask.’
Golden Arrows will now turn their attention to the Telkom Knockout when they take on Orlando Pirates on Sunday.
The match at Orlando Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
