The Absa Premiership is unpredictable, ‘one day they play like Barcelona and the other day they can play like a lower level team’, according to Cape Town City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh.

The 24-year-old keeper joined the Citizens on a three-year deal after his contract at Ajax Amsterdam expired.

Leeuwenburgh has been developed through the Ajax system and spent 10 years with the club before opting for a new challenge in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.

Even though he did not play play for Ajax’s first team, he played an important part in their youth and reserve team through the years.

The Dutch goalkeeper admits that you never know what to expect playing in the PSL, but says that South African football suits his style of play.

‘Football here is not always as consistent as it is in Europe/The Netherlands,’ Leeuwenburgh told The L.A Dosage.

‘You never know what you can expect from the opponent. One day they play like Barcelona and the other day they can play like a lower level team. It’s different for sure, but I do like it here and I think that it suits me.’

Since making the move to South Africa, the former Ajax shot-stopper already feels like he has apdated to life in the Absa Premiership even though he’s been here for a couple of months.

‘I already feel adapted. Everyone has been very kind and helpful from day one,’ he added.

‘It feels like I’ve been here for already a year or something. Ofcourse there are always people you talk more to than others, but I have a good connection with everyone.’

The Heinenoord-born goalkeeper has already manged to keep four clean sheets from eight appearances in all competitions while conceding nine goals in the process.

Cape Town City will now turn their attention to their much-anticipated MTN8 final against SuperSport United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
