AmaZulu FC reserve team coach Reneilwe Letsholonyane was encouraged by his side’s performance following their encounter against Golden Arrows in the DStv Diski Challenge.
Usuthu opened the scoring through a first-half goal from Siphephelo Majola but Abafana Bes’thende equalised in the 78th minute as both sides shared the spoils after playing out to a 1-1 draw at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.
The draw leaves AmaZulu in fifth position with one point from their first game while Arrows are placed in sixth position with the same amount of points.
Letsholonyane has since stated that their objective for the season is to win all of their matches as they prepare for their upcoming fixture against Kaizer Chiefs at the Chatsworth Stadium on September 17.
“It was a game that had a lot of positives and good moments. We started very very well,” Letsholonyane said when reflecting on the 2023/24 season opener.
“We were better than the opposition [team]. What I can say it is decision-making.
“Especially in the second-half from our team, individually and as a group obviously led to us conceding the equalising goal.”
He added: “We played at home and as AmaZulu we believe that every game we need to go into it trying to get the maximum points,” he explained.
“Yes, we conceded a goal but there was not that much challenge that Golden Arrows gave us at the back.
“So, we did not have a reason to fix much at the back. We needed to get a goal so that we could win our home game, but it did not work out.”
