Cape Town City attacker Gift Links has urged his side to continue working on improving their chances in the final third.
The Citizens were forced to settle for a point after playing to a goalless draw against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening.
Links admits he had a lot of opportunities throughout the game, but is aiming to improve his conversion rate in front of goal.
‘To be honest, it was a very hard game for us because we played three games in six days, so it was hard for us. But I can’t say it’s fatigue, we just need to work more hard and convert our chances,’ Links told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘To be honest, I got a lot of opportunities, so I just need to work on my finishing, so I think the next game I will get on the score sheet. That’s all I need to improve.’
The City winger says he is not surprised that Maritzburg goalkeeper was named Absa Premiership Man of the Match following his display on Friday evening.
‘No I wasn’t surprised. I know Richard is one of the best goalkeepers in the PSL, so we must just work more harder. But then, for me we didn’t test him enough,’ he added.
Links added that he aims to improve in the final third, stating that coach Benni McCarthy has encouraged him to at least hit the target and the goals will follow.
‘Coach Benni always tells us to hit the target. If you don’t score, at least hit the target. Missing out wide, he doesn’t allow that, so we always hit the target, it’s just a matter of time where during the matches we just have to bury our chances,’ Links concluded.
