Gift Links of Cape Town City challenged by Goodman Mosele of Baroka FC

Former Cape Town City winger Gift Links admits that his move to Denmark came as a surprise as he did not expect to make a move abroad.

The 20-year-old winger, who is currently with the U23 national team squad, recently secured a move to Danish SuperLiga side Aarhus GF.

Speaking on his move to Europe, Links said:

‘It came out of nowhere, but it’s anyone’s dream to play overseas. I’m happy that it happened while I’m still young and I hope that I’ll grab the opportunity with both hands. I’m looking forward it,’ Links told the media.

‘I spoke to the sports director in Denmark that side and he told me that they have been following me and I was ‘oh, that’s good news’. But I only got the call on Wednesday that AGF is interested. I told them if the opportunity comes for me to move overseas I’ll take it because I’ve always wanted to play overseas. I could not say no to them. I’ll go there and play my heart out and I’ll create more memories with my team there.’

Links also praised his former coach Benni McCarthy for his playing a major role in his growth as a footballer, adding that McCarthy always believed that he would earn a move aboard.

‘Coach Benni is a very good coach and he was always encouraging to do well at all times. After he heard about the move, he called to check if it’s true and he said he’s very happy for me. He said I should work hard and I thanked him. I promise that I am going there to work harder,’ he added.

‘That is one of the reasons why I joined Cape Town City (following his spell with Egyptian side, Pyramids FC). He is a great motivator and always told me that I had what it took to earn a move abroad. I just want to do good when I get there.’
