In-form Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch believes that he is not yet ready for a Bafana Bafana call-up ahead of Stuart Baxter’s squad announcement for the four-nations tournament.
Lorch has flourished under coach Milutin Sredojevic this season, but the 24-year-old was cautious when asked about a possible national team call-up for the upcoming tournament in Zambia from March 18-25.
‘Every player wants to play for the national team, but for me, I don’t think I’m ready now for the national team,’ he told Kickoff.
‘If you check, I didn’t start well this season because of the injuries. It’s only now where I’m getting my confidence back because I’m playing.
‘Hence I say I’m not ready to go and play for the national team. I just have to get my confidence back before I [can] think of playing for the national team.
‘For me, it is to play regularly in the team and to help Pirates win games,’ he added.
The former Chippa United loanee cited the tactics of Pirates coaching duo Micho and Rulani Mokwena in their turnaround in fortunes this season.
‘We are gelling as a team and we are getting used to each other, hence we are scoring goals.
‘But if you look at a game against Chiefs, we didn’t play well in the first half but in the second half we came strongly and we won the match,’ he concluded.
Baxter is set to announce the squad that will take part in the four-nations tournament at 11:00 today, while Pirates do duty against Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup last-16 on Wednesday evening.
