Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch has admitted that his side got off to a slow start to the season, but he still feels the Buccaneers have had a good season despite having no silverware to show for it.

The Soweto giants missed out on the Absa Premiership title by just two points on the final day as Mamelodi Sundowns edged Free State Stars 1-0 to secure the title, even though Pirates won 3-0 against Polokwane City.

Lorch bagged a brace in that final day victory and asserted after the encounter that he feels his side have still had a good campaign, despite not breaking their trophy drought.

‘I think we had a good season, but I think we started very slow [but] when the games started coming, we showed character, we played our game. We adapted to the way the coach wanted us to play,’ Lorch told SuperSport TV.

‘I think we had a good season. It’s unfortunate we have nothing to show on the table because people will judge you for what you bring on the table.

‘But overall I’m with my team, we played well as a team overall the whole season.’

The Footballer of the Season nominee also admitted that his sides wastefulness in front of goal will need to be improved in their next campaign.

‘I think we just need to convert our chances. I think that’s the problem we had this season. But we played well, there’s nothing we can change, we just need to change the mentality to score,’ Lorch concluded.
