Orlando Pirates have confirmed that winger Thembinkosi Lorch is set to undergo surgery on his shoulder and may be sidelined for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old injured his shoulder during the Buccaneers goalless draw against Highlands Park at the at Makhulong Stadium, and is expected to undergo surgery next week.
The former Chippa United winger has suffered trauma to his joint capsule and ligaments, which require surgical intervention, according to the club’s medical department.
Meanwhile, Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret has been boosted by the return from injury of wingers Thabo Rakhale and Thabo Qalinge, who made their return during Pirates victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in the Nedbank Cup.
The Soweto giants also confirmed that Thabiso Kutumela and Mahlatsi Makudubela are undergoing rehabilitation for their respective injuries.
Kutumela has been complaining of pain after a knock to the knee during training, while Makudubela suffered a strain in his quad muscle after a tackle during training.
The Bucs duo will continue to be assessed and will continue with their respective rehabilitation programmes.
Orlando Pirates will next take on Baroka when the two sides meet in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
The match at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
