Mamelodi Sundowns full back Nicholus Lukhubeni has reflected on netting his first senior goal for the Brazilians in the Absa Premiership.
The 23-year-old was given a place in the starting lineup at right back, with Thapelo Morena and Anele Ngconcga both out injured.
However, Lukhubeni made the most of the opportunity when he opened the scoring for Sundowns in the second minute with a superb solo effort to slot the ball past Chippa keeper Veli Mothwa and went on to earn the Man of the Match award for his performance.
Pitso Mosimane’s side then cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Chili Boys to claim all three points and move up to third place in the league standings, with 38 points from 19 matches.
‘The game was OK, but in the first half we should have scored more goals and we made the game difficult for ourselves and so in the second half we had to come back, get more goals and kill the game,’ Lukhubeni said on SuperSport TV post-game.
‘I just remember the outcome, I was just happy to give the head start to the game, it was still early in the game, so ja, it gave us a good start.
‘I’ve been getting a lot of help from everyone, the players, even Thapelo [Morena], he’s been helping me a lot.
‘He’s been trying to help me, show me what the coach wants and how I can help the team do what Thapelo does and get the same outcome.’
