Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart says he is delighted to have won the DStv Premiership Goal of the Season award for his spectacular long range strike against Orlando Pirates.
Maart walked away with the award after he produced a moment of magic when he unleashed a wonderful strike from his own half to find the back of the net in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.
As result the 27-year-old won the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month award for October for his spectacular strike at the FNB Stadium on 29 October 2022.
His strike also saw him qualified as a finalist for the Goal of the Season, which he went on to win at the annual Premier Soccer League awards ceremony.
“For that goal, I really appreciate my teammates. It’s a team sport and, at the end of the day, without them, I would never have scored the goal,” Maart told his club’s official website.
“We defended as a team from the front and Khama told me earlier to check their goalkeeper standing off his line. A bit later Khama made a tackle and the ball went loose. I took the ball and looked up and thought to myself,’ Let me just take the risk and hit it.
“I’d also like to thank everyone who voted for me to win Goal of the Season, to the fans whom I really appreciate. Amakhosi 4 Life!”
