Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Patrick Mabedi believes Ajax Cape Town will make it out of the promotion/relegation playoff and secure their Absa Premiership status for the 2018-19 season, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Glamour Boys capped their campaign off with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Urban Warriors at Cape Town Stadium after goals from Bernard Parker and Joseph Molangoane cancelled out Mosa Lebusa’s equaliser.

Mabedi admits that the Urban Warriors put up a fight until the final whistle and he believes Muhsin Ertugral’s side do not deserve to be in the position they are in at the moment.

‘Overall it was not an easy game for us and we knew we were playing against a team [Ajax] with a very good coach [Muhsin Ertugral], and the players needed to fight for their life. That made it more difficult for us,’ Mabedi said.

‘We prepared well and we expected a fight, and that’s exactly what we got. We wish Ajax well in the playoffs, they honestly don’t deserve to be there. With the coach and quality players they have.

‘It’s just unfortunate, you could see that most of the time the team were just trying to score goals, but they just need to work harder. I believe they’ll come back.

‘Overall, it was not an easy game and we managed to get three points which is what we were looking for and that’s what was important for us.’

Amakhosi booked their place in next year’s Caf Confederation Cup after ended their 2017-18 campaign in third place in the Absa Premiership standings with 48 points, while condemning Ajax to the promotion/relegation playoffs.
