Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lebohang Maboe believes the team is well placed to win a 10th PSL league title – if and when the season resumes – with the experience of Pitso Mosimane and the senior players in the squad.
The defending Absa Premiership champions were starting to build up steam ahead of season’s end, but had their title charge halted by the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Downs sit in second place on the league table just four points off log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, although they still have a game in hand over the Glamour Boys and 10 games remaining to catch and overtake the Soweto giants.
The 25-year-old forward believes his side, with the experience of Mosimane and the senior players, can compete for any trophy.
‘I think we have an experienced coach [Pitso Mosimane] with a lot of experienced players,’ said Maboe was quoted by DailySun.
‘We finished last season very strongly. We don’t want to put pressure on ourselves, we just want to take it one game at the time.
‘Sundowns are a big team, not just in South Africa but in Africa. Every competition we compete [in], our fans expect us to win,’ he said.
With the season still up in the air due to Covid-19, it remains to be seen if and when the 2019-20 campaign will be completed.
