After scoring his sixth goal of the season in a 3-2 win over Cape Town City, Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lebohang Maboe insists he will play wherever ‘the coach wants’.
The former Maritzburg United man opened the scoring in Wednesday night’s victory that saw the Brazilian go top of the Absa Premiership for the first time this season.
Maboe, who often played on the wing at his former club, admitted after the game that he is happy to lead the line for the Chloorkop-based club, adding that he was happy to get his name on the scoresheet.
‘It all goes down to the hard work I’m putting in, in the training fields you know. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to,’ Maboe told SuperSport TV.
‘The coach changed me to play in the striker’s role and I have to score the goals for the team, so I’m glad I was able to help tonight.
‘As a soccer player you have to be versatile and be able play in a position that the coach wants to play you in. I’m more than comfortable playing upfront.’
The 24-year-old also stressed the importance of the three points against the Citizens after a number of recent draws in the league.
‘It was very important for us to work as a team, because Cape Town City coming here was not going to be an easy game. We have not been collecting points. We have been dropping points in our past two games. I feel like we owe it to our fans and ourselves.
‘These people [fans] always come in numbers to support us. We owe it to them,’ he concluded.
