Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda is hoping his side can pick up where they left off when football resumes, looking to secure a record 10th Absa Premiership title.

The Brazilians currently occupy second place in the Absa Premiership standings with 44 points from 21 matches played so far this campaign, trailing log leaders Kaizer Chiefs by four points.

However, the league has been on hold for more than two months following due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 32-year-old has already managed to find the back of the net on two occasions and featured in 20 out of 41 fixtures for Sundowns this season.

Although Mabunda is relishing the chance to return to the field, he admits that this break from football was needed.

‘We have been through a difficult time with the pandemic and the lockdown, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We look forward to returning to the field of play because that is who we are and what we stand for. We want to continue where we left off, but we really needed this rest,’ Mabunda told his club’s official website.

‘For the first time in seven years we have had time to rest. So, I am looking forward to restarting the engine and playing high-intensity football. We are geared up to retain our title. I believe the boys are ready and want to also celebrate the club turning 50 years.’
