Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Neo Maema has opened up to reflect on his debut season with the Brazilians as he looks to prepare for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Maema joined the Brazilians from Bloemfontein Celtic (now Royal AM) in August 2021 and quickly cemented his place in the team, having represented Sundowns across all competitions, including the Caf Champions League, MTN8, Nedbank Cup and DStv Premiership.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder contributed to 10 goals, including seven goals and three assists from 35 appearances across all competitions during the 2021-22 season.
The former Phunya Sele Sele midfielder couldn’t contain his excitement as he prepares for the season ahead after helping Sundowns clinch the DStv Premiership, MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles in his first season with the club.
“For me, personally, it’s the Caf experience, travelling up and down the continent,” Maema told his club’s official website.
“It meant a lot to me and also winning the league because it is something that I have been praying for the better part of my career and I am just glad that we clinched that.
“As a team to reach these milestones, to break so many records and to be a part of it, winning the MTN8 after so long was actually beautiful and I want to honour the opportunity.”
