Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Cassius Mailula admits it was not an “easy” season for him despite all his success during the 2022-23 season.
Mailula has been a revelation for Sundowns this campaign and stepped up in the absence of striker Peter Shalulile, having scored 15 goals and grabbed four assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
The 21-year-old’s efforts did not go unnoticed after he was awarded the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season award.
Despite his success in his breakthrough season, Mailula says it was a hard road for him to achieve everything he did this campaign as he already has his sites on the season ahead.
“I want to thank you all for your support and the coaches for helping me become a better player,” Mailula said.
“I am excited that I won this award and I want to thank the club for helping me improve and this one goes to the coaches.
“They have built me to become a better player and a better person. It was not an easy season for me and I am glad I have achieved what I have achieved this season.”
