Majoro helps Wits sink CT City

A second-half brace by Lehlohonolo Majoro saw Bidvest Wits claim a 2-1 victory against Cape Town City in an Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday evening, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.

The encounter got off to a slow start with both sides adopting a cautious approach, ensuing a fierce midfield battle.

Despite both teams creating opportunities, neither side was able to display enough quality in the final third to break the deadlock.

Gavin Hunt’s men were dealt an injury blow in the 21st minute when Gabadinho Mhango was forced off with injury and subsequently replaced by Vincent Pule.

The home side, in turn were also dealt an injury blow when Matthew Rusike was forced off with injury and subsequently replaced by Nana Akosah-Bempah.

Majoro broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time after latching on to a pinpoint pass.

City came out with more of an attacking intent in the second half and were rewarded with a stroke of luck as Craig Martin’s deflected strike went past goalkeeper Darren Keet.

Majoro would prove to be the hero against his former team as he latched on to a cross from Sifiso Hlanti to restore his side’s lead.

Cole Alexander came on late to make his debut for the Clever Boys as they ran out 2-1 victors.

In the four matches played between these two sides in all competitions so far, City have claimed a 100% record, having won all these encounters.
