Representatives of Collins Makgaka have confirmed that the attacking midfielder parted ways with Baroka FC.
The 24-year-old spent five years at Bakgaga and managed to bag five goals and two assists from 61 appearances across all competitions.
Makgaka, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the campaign, struggled to get a starting berth in the Baroka run-on XI this season, having made just 11 starts.
Having spent five years at the Limpopo club, the 24-year-old will be in search of a new home for the new season, as confirmed by football intermediary Kieran Brown at Sprint Management Group.
Brown said in a statement: ‘Having spent five years at South African PSL club Baroka FC, Collins Makgaka’s time at the club is sadly coming to an end. Baroka FC gave Collins a stepping stone into the professional game and, more importantly, experience playing at the highest level in South Africa. Collins is excited for the next chapter of his career as he looks to fulfil his ambitions to become one of the top players in the PSL.’
Meanwhile, SMG also released a statement by Makgaka:
‘I would like to thank the chairman, Mr Mphahlele, the staff [past and present] and the fans for all the support you have given me over these five enjoyable years at the club. In my first season at the club we gained promotion to the PSL, and more recently winning the Telkom Knockout in 2018 have been the highlights in my career. These are the memories I will cherish forever. I am sad to be leaving this great club but I am excited to see what the future holds. I’d like to wish everyone connected to the club the very best of luck for the future.’
