Orlando Pirates midfield star Mpho Makola has stated that he and his club are targeting trophies this season, starting with the league title.

Pirates have begun the new season on the front foot following the arrival of experienced Turkish coach Muhsin Ertugral, who is hoping to revive the club following a disappointing season last term. A key proponent of that revival is a return to trophy-winning ways, a goal the club is eagerly pursuing under the new coach’s guidance.

Makola, meanwhile, insists the league title is an achievable target.

‘This season we set ourselves goals and winning the league is one of the goals we want to achieve. We can’t be complacent and we need to be consistent in how we perform and get results,’ Makola told SoccerLaduma.

‘I feel that if everyone comes to the party, it won’t be difficult because we have a quality coach and a quality squad. I think everyone just needs to be consistent,’ Makola added.

Pirates currently sit third in the Premiership standings on a tally of eight points from four matches played. The Buccaneers do have a game in hand over early front-runners Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows, however, meaning a victory would take them top of the table.

The side are next in action when they face Polokwane City in the Premiership on Sunday.

The match will take place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, with proceedings getting underway at 15:30.
