Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has highlighted the importance of bouncing back from their Telkom Knockout heartbreak with a win against Stellenbosch FC.

The Soweto giants and the newly promoted side clash on Wednesday evening at the Cape Town Stadium, where Amakhosi will be aiming to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat by Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout Cup semi-finals.

Speaking to the club’s official website, midfielder Maluleka admitted that his side’s performance was not good enough in the semi-final but insisted that they are ready to bounce back on Wednesday evening.

‘To fall out of a tournament where you had high hopes and especially that the team was doing well in, was not a good feeling. We did not live up to expectations. Both the result and the performance were not what we would have wanted, for us and our fans,’ said Maluleka.

‘We have Stellenbosch next on our hands and we really need to get a result there to keep the momentum going. The guys know what is at stake we can learn a lot from Sunday’s game as heartbreaking as it was, this is a new ball game and we have to work hard on Wednesday,’ he added.

‘We expect a similarly tough and challenging game to the one we had on Sunday against Maritzburg. This game is in one of our backyards, Cape Town. It’s a big plus for our fans who have done so well for us, we really appreciate this. There is no easy game, we need to show up and this is why we are Kaizer Chiefs and we need to show that,’ the 30-year-old concluded.
