Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka was delighted to have scored his first goal for Amakhosi since September last year.

The Glamour Boys returned to winning ways in the Absa Premiership after claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over SuperSport United at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Maluleka bagged his first goal for the club this season and walked away with the Man of the Match award following his impressive display against his former side.

‘First of all I’d like to thank the Almighty God, he made it possible for all of us to be here. The technical team, my teammates, we did very well tonight,’ Maluleka told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘It was a very good game of football. We applied ourselves. We needed the three points, we knew it was going to be very difficult, but overall scoring the goal after over a year [of not scoring], yeah it’s been a very long time. I’m glad it came tonight.’

The 29-year-old added that newly-appointed coach Ernst Middendorp put them through their paces during training ,which paid dividends in the game.

‘The coach has been here for a couple of days now, and he made it clear to us from the onset how he wanted us to play, we did that. He told us to work very hard, to work as a team, we did exactly that. We were able to get maximum points tonight,’ he added.

Speaking on his match-winning goal, Maluleka revealed that he knew the ball would find the back of the net the minute it left his boot.

‘The minute it left my boot I knew [it was going in]. I connected very well [with the ball]. Ronwen [Williams] knows me well and I know him well too. He chose a side and I went the other way. It felt very good.

‘We’re excited, there’s a lot to take in in a short space of time, but the players adapted very well. I’m happy for the boys and Kaizer Chiefs,’ Maluleka concluded.
