Cape Town City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis believes that the Citizens are out of the race for the Absa Premiership title.

The Citizens dropped down to fifth place in the Absa Premiership standings with 30 points after conceding a 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday.

The CT City assistant coach believes that his side are out of the PSL title race and admits they are focusing on finishing in the top eight this season.

‘I think it is done, to be honest. I think it has slipped, that’s us. I think if we stay in the top five, we will be okay, they will be happy with that,’ Manousakis told the media.

‘We’ve got Nedbank on Wednesday and then we are off to Swaziland, and that is a whole new experience for us in the Caf.

‘If I understood the chairman at the beginning of the season, his mandate to Benni was top eight so, hopefully, we will end there and thereabout. But, I think we need to be realistic and say that we are out of the running,’ he added.

Cape Town City will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup when they travel to the Bidvest Stadium to face Bidvest Wits on Wednesday, with kickoff set for 19:30.
