Goals by Bandile Shandu and Siphesihle Ndlovu saw Maritzburg United claim bragging rights in the Kwa-Zulu Natal derby as they defeated AmaZulu 2-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter on Friday night.
The home side should have opened the lead as early as the first minute when Andrea Fileccia, but his side-footed proved too tame to beat goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha.
Ovidy Karuru came close to opening the scoring for the visitors in the 16th minute, but Richard Ofori kept his low strikeout.
Siyethemba Mnguni should have put the visitors ahead in the 23rd minute, but he failed to take advantage of being unmarked at the back post and subsequently blasted his effort wide of the effort.
The Team of Choice broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when Bandile Shandu scored with the simplest of tap-ins.
The complexity of the encounter changed in the 62nd minute when AmaZulu were then reduced to 10-men after Ncube received his second yellow card of the game.
Siphesihle Ndlovu put the final nail coffin when he scored in the final minute of the stoppage time following some good work by William Twala down the left flank, 2-0.
