SuperSport United were forced to settle for a point after playing out to a 0-0 draw with Maritzburg United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
Matsatsantsa looked the more lively side in the opening 10 minutes of the game, but were finding it hard to break down the Maritzburg defence in the final third.
The home side had a chance to open the scoring after 18 minutes when Thuso Phala was played through on goal, but Richard Ofori did well to prevent his goal-bound effort.
Evans Rusike should’ve put SuperSport ahead a minute later, but the striker’s effort sailed narrowly wide of the posts as the scoreline remained goalless.
At the other end, the Team of Choice started to find their rhythm in the game as they tried to beat SuperSport on the counterattack.
Maritzburg nearly took the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Mohau Mokate directed his header over the target.
Aubrey Modiba had a great chance to put his side ahead 10 minutes into the second half, but Ofori was on hand to deny the SuperSport midfielder.
Ofori came to his side’s rescue once again when he produced a fine save to keep out Teboho Mopkoena’s effort from distance.
However, neither side was able to find the winning goal in the closing stages of the game as both sides shared the spoils at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
