Losing Nedbank Cup finalists Maritzburg United are vying for the services of SuperSport United forward Fagrie Lakay.

Lakay spent part of the season on loan at Ajax Cape Town, where he netted two goals and contributed two assists to the Urban Warriors who succumbed to relegation, after fielding an illegible player in Tendai Ndoro for a number of league games.

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed that the club has made an offer for the services of the youngest ever player to represent Bafana Bafana.

‘SuperSport United gave us permission to engage with Lakay,’ he told IOL.

‘We’ve made an offer for him. We are still waiting for him to respond and we will take it from there,’ he added.

After a record-breaking season under the tutelage of coach Fadlu Davids, Maritzburg is poised to lose one or two of their prized-assets, however, they have lined up a number of replacements for next season.

‘Obviously, there will always be an interest in a player like Siphesihle Ndlovu.

‘He has done well for us this season but I think he still needs one more season with us.

‘We don’t want to jeopardise his career. For now, he is not for sale but we can’t prevent teams from showing an interest in a player like him. ‘ he concluded.
