Kaizer Chiefs left-back Tsepo Masilela is ‘optimistic’ that he still has a future at Amakhosi, despite his injury setbacks.
The 32-year-old has only managed to feature three times for Amakhosi this season since sustaining an ankle injury in August 2017, which saw him miss 27 games in total.
Masilela believes he still has a lot more to offer Amakhosi, despite his age and spending most of the campaign on the sidelines.
‘I think I still have a couple of years in me,’ Masilela told IOL.
‘It goes with the passion – and mine is still there [to play], and I still want to win trophies. So as long as the passion is there, the body can carry on.’The former Bafana Bafana defender says that he would like to stay at the club, but he admits that his future is out of his hands.
‘You can’t really predict the future or plan it because if it was only up to me, then yes, I would be staying at Chiefs. But you know how it goes – two parties, negotiating, not really up to me,’ he added.
‘My being out of action for so long might make things difficult, yes.
‘But I am optimistic. At the end of the day, this is football. I haven’t had a perfect career, but to be honest I am grateful and happy with what I have achieved and in the tournaments I have played in.
‘I am calm about this situation and we will see how it goes.’
Kaizer Chiefs will next welcome Baroka to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium when the two side’s meet in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Saturday, with kick-off set for 20:15.
