Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho says his side are solely focused on their Absa Premiership against strugglers Baroka at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys extended their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions following their comfortable 3-0 victory over Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 on Saturday.
The 27-year-old believes his side played well to progress into the next round of the competition but insists that his side have to focus on their upcoming Absa Premiership match against Baroka.
‘We played really well on Saturday. The mindset from the rest of the guys was clear and it’s good that we have progressed to the next round (Last 16) of the Nedbank Cup,’ Mathoho told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘What we need to remember, however, is that Saturday’s match is over and we must now think about what lies ahead (Baroka FC).
‘The league is a big focus for us and it is so important that we shift all energy to that and make sure that we continue with our good run. Often it’s easy to lose focus after a good cup victory, but we must never forget what is more important.’
The Bafana Bafana defender says he is confident Amakhosi possesses the winning mentality to overcome Bakgaga in their next fixture.
‘This is a great opportunity for us to stay in touch with the teams above us. This league race is only heating up now,’ He added.
‘Baroka will feel a bit confident after their win this past weekend, but I think we have enough to get the three points if we can have a similar approach to the one against Stellenbosch. If we play our normal football we can beat any team.’
Kaizer Chiefs will now travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium when they take on Baroka in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 20:15.
