Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has hit out at the former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael after the success of Siphelele Mthembu this season, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
Mthembu, who is affectionately known as ‘Shaka’, bagged his seventh goal of the season in City’s 5-0 thumping of Ea Lla Koto at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.
McCarthy riposted that he is the the best coach Mthembu has ever had after the striker beat his personal goal-scoring record, despite Eymael previously stating that ‘Shaka’ made a mistake by joining the Citizens.
‘Luc Eymael said Shaka’s biggest mistake was to leave Free State because he’s the best coach Shaka will ever have,’ McCarthy said.
‘Here is Shaka’s best coach (McCarthy) ever. I don’t want to take the credit, but I’m the first coach to make him score seven goals, more than he has ever had. I can smoke a cigar now.’
Cape Town City will now turn their attention to their Nedbank Cup encounter against rivals SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium on 26 January.
