Orlando Pirates have confirmed that winger Luvuyo Memela looks set to miss their final Absa Premiership clash against Free State Stars after sustaining an injury.

The 30-year-old could potentially miss his side’s final league encounter after damaging his knee during their narrow 1-0 defeat to Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium last Saturday.

The Buccaneers provided an update on Memela, Thabiso Kutumela and Mthokozisi Dube in a statement which reads: ‘The defeat to Cape Town City over the past weekend wasn’t without any casualties.

‘Attacking winger Luvuyo Memela – one of Pirates’ best performers of the season – suffered an injury which could potentially see him ruled out for the last match of the season against Free State Stars.’

According to the Bucs’ medical staff, Memela has suffered a knee strain and will be sent to a specialist to assess the full extent of his injury.

‘Meanwhile, in other injury news, Thabiso Kutumela continues to undergo his first phase of rehabilitation and is said to be progressing well.

‘Right-back Mthokozisi Dube has recovered from his groin strain and is now currently working with the strength and conditioning team.’

Orlando Pirates are set to welcome Free State Stars to the Orlando Stadium in their final Absa Premiership clash on Saturday, 12 May with kick-off set for 3pm.
