Orlando Pirates winger Luvuyo Memela says he desperately wanted to score a hat-trick against arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby last weekend.
The 30-year-old bagged a brace to help the Buccaneers secure a 3-1 victory over the Amakhosi, which kept their title hopes alive as they reduced the gap between them and Mamelodi Sundowns to just four points.
Memela revealed that he was looking forward to scoring a hat-trick at the FNB Stadium, but veteran midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala foiled his plans.
‘I wanted to score a hat-trick goal, (he) chipped the ball for me and it slightly bounced and it went away, when I got to the ball and when I looked and saw Shaba, I thought, let me delay and see what he does, I pretended like I am playing around, when he came, when I did that skill, I wanted him to come (to) this side and go run on the line but he touched it with his big toe,’ Memela told the media after the match.
‘So, I wanted to score a hat-trick goal, I really wanted to score a hat-trick.’
Orlando Pirates will next take on Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium when the two side’s lock horns in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 19:30.
