Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo is upbeat ahead of his team’s clash against an in-form Kaizer Chiefs side this weekend.
The Cape side, though, have not been in the best of form since the resumption of the PSL in February. The Urban Warriors drew 1-1 with Polokwane City and are still winless in 2017.
Kaizer Chiefs, on the other hand, are currently on a five-match winning streak, having recently beaten Highlands Park to move up to 2nd on the log.
The former Dutch international was still optimistic about his side’s chances, as he believes that the Chiefs’ attacking style will suit his Ajax team.
‘If I am honest and I don’t know why [I feel like this], but I’d rather play a team like Kaizer Chiefs than a Polokwane City for example, or teams that wait for the counter-attack,’ Menzo told the Ajax Cape Town website.
The Urban Warriors coach hopes that his team can stop the Glamour Boys from playing, while also trying to assert their own strategy.
‘It will be a very interesting game, playing against a good team with good players who are on a good run. Let’s see if we are able to disrupt their way of playing, and if we are able to play our own game, and I think if we play our own game we will have more possibilities,’ he added.
The former Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper admitted that he knew very little about his side’s illustrious PSL opponents, but is wary of the threat posed by the Soweto giants.
‘I don’t know the team so well, but I know it is a quality team, a team that likes to play football. I think the individual skills of players – they are very experienced and mature so they know when and where they can hurt us. We have to be aware of that,’ Menzo concluded.
The clash between Ajax and Kaizer Chiefs will take place at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening.
Kick-off is scheduled for 20:15.
