Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo insists that his side’s performance wasn’t ‘too bad’, despite suffering a 2-0 defeat against Cape Town City on Saturday.

The Urban Warriors suffered their second successive defeat in the Absa Premiership against Cape Town City through goals by Aubrey Ngoma and an own goal by Erwin Isaacs.

In the aftermath, the former Dutch international – Menzo – was realistic in his evaluation of what transpired on the pitch in the Mother City as Ajax now turn their attention to Polokwane City.

Menzo admits that his side didn’t have the best of performances against their local rivals but he insists that City proved too strong for his side on the day.

‘Our performance wasn’t too bad,’ Menzo told the Ajax Cape Town website.

‘But in football, it’s about the details and small things which make a big difference. We were at home and had to make the play because we wanted to win, but City play good transition football; they have a good team, are very mature and wait for the right moments.’

The former Dutch international admits that it was difficult for his team to play against a team with the quality that Eric Tinkler’s side possesses.

‘Each team has its own qualities – one team has the quality of keeping the ball, and that’s probably us. But keeping the ball for a long time won’t make you win games. Out of possession, you have to create chances and score goals,’ He added.

‘City decided to have less of the ball, but were very efficient as they have the players for that – players who can run and see things, and make good decisions: [Lebogang] Manyama sees the moment his side wins the ball and is already on his way.

‘And that’s quality … and not what we have, we have other qualities. And it’s not easy to play against a team like that.’

Ajax Cape Town will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
