Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa says he draws inspiration from captain Willard Katsande to help improve his performance.

The 17-year-old was recently promoted to the Amakhosi first team alongside the likes of Bruce Bvuma, Khotso Malope and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

The former Amakhosi youth product says he had a good pre-season with Chiefs and is looking forward to getting his senior career started at the club.

‘It wasn’t easy,’ Meyiwa told his club’s official website.

‘It was hard and there was a lot of running. However, we are now all top-fit and ready to go.’

The Pietermaritzburg-born player says he is receiving great knowledge of the game under the mentorship of Chiefs captain Willard Katsande.

‘Katsande talks a lot with me,’ he added.

‘For example, he tells me to never be scared when playing. He also advises me a lot about positioning, when to be where on the pitch, especially when we are defending.

‘When I play with Katsande in the same team at training, everything becomes very easy. He’s always motivating me and giving tips on how to become a better player.’

Kaizer Chiefs will take on Bloemfontein Celtic in their opening fixture of the Absa Premiership when the two sides meet on Sunday.

The match at the Free State Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
